Bf109 main ID plates

These plates (link below), a few of likely hundreds taken in wartime for intelligence purposes, were unearthed (literally) at RAF Kenley in the 1980s, having been disposed of there at some point after the war. The WNr are: 8401 (or 8461), 8692, 10728, and 10593. I welcome members' help in revealing service histories for these airplanes.

Re: Bf109 main ID plates

Some helpful historians, members have offered the following, which I want to share…

8461… Bf109F-4/Trop, Reuter Uffz.Horst, 5./JG27, 100% Luftkampf 22/11/1941 nr.Bir-El-Gobi, Libya. Pilot OK. Uffz. Reuter was a 21-kill ace at the time of his death in 1942.

8401… Bf109F-4 damaged with II./J.G. 27 24.09.41 and 05.01.42. Lost with 4./J.G. 27 05.06.42 with Franz Stiegler at the controls near Tmimi, North Africa.

8692... Bf109F-4 lost with I./J.G. 27 25.04.42 near Tmimi. If 8692 was piloted when lost, can anyone identify the airman that was at the controls that day?

So far, unfortunately, no history for WNr's 10728 or 10593 (possibly 10598).

Thank you,
Steve
