Information concerning loss of Uffz. Ludwig Stens - lost 18.12.1944
Hi,
Can anyone provide information on the loss of Uffz. Ludwig Stens who was killed on a flight mission on the 18th December 1944? He was an experienced bomber crew member with the EK I and Silver Flight battle badge. He was killed near to the Dutch border. Thanks Rick Last edited by rickback4444; 9th February 2018 at 21:14. |

Re: Information concerning loss of Uffz. Ludwig Stens - lost 18.12.1944
Rick I could not find any loss info. on this airman , the GraveSearch sites gives the date of his death as 17-12-1944 with dob as 5-3-1922 and that he is buried at the Military cemetery at Steinfurt. At this stage some aircrew were being transferred to Paras/Field Divisions so his loss might not be aircraft related. I believe KG 66 and LG 1 were operating on the 17/18th but his name does not appear on their losses.

Re: Information concerning loss of Uffz. Ludwig Stens - lost 18.12.1944
Rick I read as follows - The fallen loved one was born on the 5.March 1922 in Bochum. In 1940 he went to the Luftwaffe as a volunteer and took part in operations in the east, south and west. he died on the 18 December 1944 in the reserve hospital in Burgsteinfurt, 15 hours after the crash on an enemy flight, shortly before his wedding . At the cemetery of honor he found with his comrades the final rest.
The Grave search site states his grave is at the military Cemetery in Steinfurt-Burgsteinfurt - Kath block 0, row 5 grave 54. I cannot find his loss details on what i have, Regards Brian Bines |
