Confusion ….

The first promotion (Dec 41) was as a temporary S/L which means he could return to being a F/L if he stopped doing whatever job carried the S/L rank
The second (July 1942) was to war substantive rank which meant he was then a S/L for as long as the war lasted (or he got further promoted) Martin
