Bf 110 2Z+MF W.Nr. xxx089

Hello,

Is anything known about a Bf 110 G-4 2Z+MF? The last 3 digits of the serial number were 089. I assume it was a Stab IV./NJG 6 aircraft.

Thanks,

Roger

Hi Roger

I have noted the following WNr. from the Internet: 720082 (plane from Hptm Martin Becker)

best wishes

Hello Roger,

Do you have more information about the time window during which that Bf 110 was in operation? I have a record of 2Z+MF flown by Hptm. Martin Becker, Kommandeur IV. Gruppe NJG6 during mid December 1944 and mid March 1945, but it is recorded as a Ju 88 G-6. The IV. Gruppe was reduced to a single "Einsatz-Staffel" on 30th March 1945.

Kind regards
Mathias

Hi JoMe and Mathias,

Thank you for the additional information. I am not sure about Martin Becker as he had 58 victories, but the tail only shows 43. Of course it could be that he stopped using that aircraft and the markings were no longer updated, but I guess they would have overpainted the old markings.

Could it be Herbert Lütje's aircraft? He was Gruppenkommandeur of IV./NJG 6 until October 1944. By that time he had 42 victories (source: https://www.luftwaffe.cz/lutje.html)

But Lütje had one victory over a B-17 at daytime. The markings on the tail look all to have British roundels and a diagonal black line (= victory at night?). I am not sure if all of Becker's victories were at night and over British aircraft.

Regards,

Roger

Side question Roger: What do you have as the location of this plane? I suspected Oberschleissheim...

Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the location. Meanwhile I found an old TOCH thread where I saw that you proposed Oberschleissheim as possible location. I think that would make sense. Several other Bf 110s can be seen parked in a row and elements of NJG 6 were based at Schleissheim.

Re: Bf 110 2Z+MF W.Nr. xxx089

Becker flew both Bf110s and Ju88s using 2Z+MK and 2Z+MF.

He first flew a Bf110 coded MK on 6 March 1944, and a Ju88 with the same code on 18 August 1944. Becker achieved his 41st Abschuss flying Bf110 MK in September 1944.

Becker first flew a Bf110 coded MF on 6 December 1944, and a Ju88 with the same code on 8 November 1944

Your depiction of the tail fits WNr. 720082 (confirmed with a photo), marked Doppelwinkel 2Z+MF (M possibly in RLM 25 with black outline), which acc. to some sources (ie. Grounded Eagles II and John McIllmurray) was found at Neubiberg. John is apparently aware of some photos that I haven't seen as he describes (in his decal sheet instructions) some portions of the aircraft that are not visible on the photos I do know - perhaps get in touch with him: http://www.aimsmodels.co.uk/Decals/decals.html

Re: Bf 110 2Z+MF W.Nr. xxx089

I don't know, but I would doubt Neubiberg. This was a very well-photographed airfield and - at least in my collection - 2Z+MF is not visible in any shot.

The Bf 110s I have are ??+GR, ??+NR, 2Z+FR, 2Z+IR. I guess they all were leftovers from the same 7./NJG 6. It is unclear how many Bf 110s were found at Neubiberg, but the photos suggest that there shouldn't be many more than the ones I mentioned, if any.
