crash location of 10 Squadron Halifax HX286, 9-10 April 1945?

Dear all,

Can anybody tell me where 10 Squadron Halifax HX286 crashed during the Stade raid of 9-10 April 1945? The aircraft suffered several engine problems and was abandoned over territory held by the 2nd British Army. F/Sgt. E.S. Beaumont and his crew all survived.

Cheers and thanks for any info,

Theo

Theo,

VICK, James Mortimer - (Warrant Officer); Service Number - 410759; File type - Casualty - Repatriation; Aircraft - Halifax HX 286; Place - Rees, southeast of Arnhem, Holland; Date - 10 April 1944

You might want to let the NAA know they're a year out.

Regards,

Dave

Dave/Theo

Can you expand a bit on this topic?

Theo, you are very specific and state it was during a raid against Stade 9/10 April 1945

As per Bomber Command War Diaries, there was such a raid on that date!

Dave, you claim it was one year earlier in 1944 but there was no raid against Stade on that night.

Theo also very specifically state the aircraft was abandoned over British held territory. That is only possible by 1945 (not 1944!).

Unfortunately this loss is not (as far as I can see) mentioned on either date in Chorley's volumes, so impossible to check it out that way.

For what it is worth, Air Britain in their RAF aircraft HA-HZ booklet also gives the loss date as per 1945

Cheers
Stig

It is in Chorley, bottom of page 158 of 1945 volume

Everyone thinks it is 1945, except NAA, who are a year out = typo
