Luftwaffe claims in Med

Hi Guys.
While doing long range reconnaissance off Iraklion Bay in Greece a 15 sqdn Baltimore was attacked at 08:12 hours by 5 BF 109 fighters off Dhia Islands, Crete. A claim was lodged by Lt. Hans-Joachim Hayessen, 7/JG 27 - 23/2/1944. Can anybody tell me the ID of the 109 ie Type and even wrk no or code.
Also:
2. 28/10/43 near Scarpanto, 3 kills claimed by 8/JG 27 by 1 OBLF Kurt Hammel and 2 OFHR Alexander Ottnad.
Gefreiter Frederich Ullrich.
Same question.
Type of 109 and code or Wrk No's.
Did these pilots survive the war???
Thanks in advance from down here in a rapidly warming up S Africa.
Stefaan

Hi Stefaan.

I can confirm Hans-Joachim Hayessen did not survive the war.

Re: Luftwaffe claims in Med

Stefaan,

III./JG 27 was equipped with the Bf 109G-6 at the time of these claims. Unfortunately I have no info on the specific a/c that each was flying at the time the claims were made. Of the four pilots you name, Lt. Alexander Ottnad was shot down on 18.08.44 becoming a POW. I assume he survived the war but his subsequent fate is unknown to me. Oblt. Kurt Hammel transferred to I./JG 77 and made the last of his 20 claims on 2.05.45. So he appears to have survived the war but may have gone into Soviet captivity and again I know nothing of his subsequent fate. The other two were KIA as follows:

Fhj.Uffz. Friedrich Ullrich on 19.05.44
Lt. Hans-Joachim Hayessen on 23.06.44

Not much I'm afraid but I hope it helps some.

Cheers,
Tom
