Donald M. McPherson lived an exemplary life. He was a great friend to Fagen Fighters WWII Museum and the Fagen family. He will be greatly missed. The following is a post from his son, Dean McPherson. The things a man experiences and how he responds, are reflected in his character. Donald McPherson, our last WWII Ace, lived a life of fierce devotion. WWII shaped his outllook on the world around him. He was a true patriot, who risked everything, serving aboard the USS Essex, flying the F6F Hellcat with VF83 squadron, Wonder Five division. He selflessly served the community of Adams, NE as a rural mail carrier with the US postal system, Scoutmaster of Troop 280 for a time, coaching & organizing the summer ball program, expanding the number of teams for youth through his leadership, and volunteering at community events, raising and lowering the flags at the local cemetery, and cheering on the youth at their sporting events, and leadership in his local church. He worked the family farm for many years. Last, but not least, he showed true devotion to the love of his life, Thelma for over fifty years. He was 103 years young. We, his children, have been indelibly imprinted by his life and character. He was dearly loved by all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
