German nightfighter losses – Dusseldorf, 2-3 November 1944

Hello/Bonjour,

I would like to know if there were any other German nightfighter losses that night (2-3 November 1944) other than the Bf 110G-4 flew by Uffz. Kischke, 12./NJG 1. [Crew: Uffz. Hünser and Gefr. Stutz]. Thank you.

Best regards,
Frederic

Re: German nightfighter losses – Dusseldorf, 2-3 November 1944

Hello Cedric,

Four Nachtjäger were lost during the night’s operations. According to an ops. report of III./NJG4 (kept in DEFE 3-302), a Ju88 of this Gruppe crashed and another Junkers was shot down. I have not found any further details on these two losses. Bf110 G-4 G9+PZ of 12./NJG1 was lost in Feindbeschuss (enemy gunfire) of a 29 Squadron Mosquito, the crew of three perishing in the crash north of Düsseldorf. Bf110 G-4 G9+CN of 5./NJG1 ran out of fuel in the prevailing bad weather, the aircraft crashing 3 km NW of Nieheim at 22.05 hrs with the loss of the novice pilot Uffz. Franz Michels. In addition, Bf110 G-4 G9+GP of 6./NJG1, parked on the ground at Düsseldorf, was hit by a bomb and destroyed at around 19.30 hrs.

Cheers, Theo

Hello/Bonjour Theo,

A huge thank you for all these details regarding the Nachtjäger losses for the night of November 2/3, 1944. Very useful for my friend who is looking for the victim of a Halifax from the French Squadron "Guyenne". He has now all he needs to make a choice. Once again, merci beaucoup.

Best regards,
Frederic

Any WNr known for the two additional losses?
Balz only gives 180381 for the G9+PZ loss

Being 1944 I guess crew were uninjured so no NVM and QMG Returns are missing for 1944. Annoying really

WNr. of G9+PZ is 180391 in the NVM, WNr. of G9+CN is 140677 in the NVM. For G9+GP I have WNr. 180555.
