Unknown Bf109

Hello,
I have bought this photo some years ago from eBay. I guess it is a well known photo, taken by an Associated Press photographer during the war. The caption is given, and the only clue is October 25 (1943?) which must be the date of its being wired to AP Hq.
I would like to know if anyone has any details of this Bf109? With the spirals on its spinner and the MG17 laying on the ground, it must be an early Gustav like G-2, G-4.
Any help would be appreciated.
Batur

The other important clue is that she had been pictured at Paestum beach, Italy, after being shot down by a U.S. anti-aircraft artillery unit... (just to avoid the others to turn their head )

Also, the caption says "WX6-Oct.25" which I'm guessing means it was taken on 25 October 1943. Paestum is on the bay about 20 miles south of Salerno whih also reinforces the idea of it being 1943.
