Luftwaffe bombing of Paris August 26 1944
After it was liberated, Paris was bombed by the Luftwaffe, killing over 50 civilians, on August 26.
Any details on this raid? What were the aircraft used and which unit? Where was their base and were any bombers lost? |

Re: Luftwaffe bombing of Paris August 26 1944
IX. Fliegerkorps was ordered to attack crossroads and supply routes around Sceaux on the south eastern outskirts of the city. The centre was to be ‘avoided at all costs’ except by KG 30, flying from Le Culot, which was to drop leaflets.
111 aircraft took part and they did hit the city, as you say. There was a two-part article on the raid by Alain Mrchand in Air Fan, issues 81 and 82 (July and August 1985). Think that you can find memories of the raids on some websities that deal with the Liberation of Paris, too. |
