Jim Glazebrook and RCAF Station Charlottetown
Hello,
I just finished the short autobiography of Jim Glazebrook, Someone to Watch Over Me. He trained at NAS Pensacola and served in 206 squadron hunting U-boats. After US Navy training he posted to RCAF Station Charlottetown at Prince Edward Island were as he writes In the early part of the war, the Coastal Command flying boat squadrons did not have separate navigators. A flying boat on patrol would have three pilots, one of which in turn would act as navigator, so we now also had to qualify as navigators. On Prince Edward Island I learned navigation aboard the mark 1 Anson, the undercarriage of which had to be wound up by hand… I want to ask you this ''Navigator training'' was from the No. 32 Air Navigation School RAF, RCAF Station Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island or from No. 31 General Reconnaissance School also at RCAF Station Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island ??? Thanks in advance |

Re: Jim Glazebrook and RCAF Station Charlottetown
I could be wrong, but I think he may have been in 31 General Reconnaissance School. He specifically mentions that he is training for flying boats. This description of the 31 General Reconnaissance school: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._31_GRS_BCATP
mentions that "The school trained pilots and observers in the techniques of patrolling oceans using the Avro Anson." The No. 32 Air Navigation School taught a four week course in astronavigation. Last edited by RSwank; 3rd December 2023 at 02:09. |

Re: Jim Glazebrook and RCAF Station Charlottetown
His name shows up here on page 746 showing him in Course 72A on the link given by Col Bruggy.
https://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/o...eel_c12366/746 Page 799 shows he graduated in Course (Class) 72A, (although they didn't get his full name listed and the serial number is wrong. https://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/o...eel_c12366/799 Based on some newspaper clippings also in the link the time period is around January-February, 1943.
