Photo Albatros D.III
Hello,
Currently on ebay are some interesting photos of an Albatros D.V of Kest 5? That is one is marked D.V, but would have thought D.Va and I have seen the machine with the Dragon markings described as a D.III (OAW) at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...wAAOSw9dtec14j and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...8AAOSwq9Zec1sZ and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...MAAOSww7Fec2Dm and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...sAAOSw0blec1~M and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...IAAOSwD-5ec2HT and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...YAAOSw0BVec2o3 Regards, Clint Last edited by musec04; 20th March 2020 at 10:35. |

Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Hi Bertrand,
Thank you for the reply and the corrections. I shall retitle this thread accordingly. Unfortunately,I was guided by the fact that one of the images had D.V written on the back and while I own Albatros Aircraft of WWI Vol.4, and have D.1671/17 listed in my database as photos 3 & 4 don't show a serial I didn't realise I'd previously seen those photos. Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Not a very crystal clear picture Clint
Making a wild guess, I would say it at least looks like it begins with D.21 and the next two digits just might be 29, but I admit balancing on a very tight rope when writing that.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Clint the 2 on the right look like Frommherz and Kempf.

Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Hi Nick,
I absolutely agree the aircraft with the diagonal band is the machine of Frommherz.I also absolutely agree that you're eyesight is better than mine if you can identify the other aircraft as that of Kempf,so I'm happy to take your word for it on that basis. In your reading, have you at any time come across the serials of those two machines? Also, given your better eyesight can you make anything of the serial on the second machine back on the left? Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Sorry Clint can't make that serial out ( but looks like 3 digits); neither of the other 2 seem to have been recorded.
Kempf's D.III had this distinctive wide white bar ; there is another photo of these 2 in the Osprey Albatros aces part 1, with Bassenge's. Another photo of this D.III running-up with Kempf in the cockpit shows the dark fuselage and wheel covers. The painting is by Brian Knight GAvA. http://www.vintageaviation.net/kempf5.htm Nick Last edited by Buckeye30; 26th July 2021 at 17:38. |

Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Hello,
Currently on ebay are two photos of an Albatros D.III at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/363593827706...YAAOSw6J9hdojo https://www.ebay.de/itm/363593826222...MAAOSw~tdhdogj Unfortunately the negative appears to have been reversed which does not help in identifying the machine shown (though annoyingly I think I've seen it before somewhere). The serial appears to end in 82 or should that be begins in 82? Can anyone please assist with the number shown? Regards, Clint |
