23.11.39 Do 17P damaged by French fighters
Hi,
on 23.11.39 some pilots of GCII/7 claimed a probable kill against a German recon Do 17. I`m looking for time and place of this engagement because I probably nailed their opponent. Regards Robert |

Re: 23.11.39 Do 17P damaged by French fighters
Hi all,
that seems that be pretty hard to judge. From KTB of stab(F)/122: 08.15 hrs takeoff of a recon plane of 2.(F)/122. Objective: photo-reconnaissance of north-east France. A/c failed to return. Crew: Lt. Aeckerle (BO) Uffz. Blattmann (FF) 07.55 hrs takeoff of a recon plane of 3.(F)/122. Objective: photo-reconnaissance of north-east France. A/c failed to return. Crew: Ofw. Schlapp (BO) Uff. Gruendling (FF) 08.02 hrs takeoff of a recon plane of 4.(F)/122. Objective: photo-reconnaissance of north-east France. A/c failed to return. Crew: Uffz. Frankenberger (FF) Uffz. Ehlers (BO) 08.05-13.50 hrs recon mission had been flown by a/c of 4.(F)/122. Crew: Olt. v. Dombrowsky (BO) Uffz. Schiefhauer A/c had been attacked by two French fighters. Ca. 20 strikes in the plane. Belgian territory had been violated. For results see attachment nos.288 and 289. There are also other losses from other units. I think we must check all claims that had been submitted on this day by allied units. I don`t think that the last plane could be opponent of GCII/7. What do you think? Regards Robert |

Re: 23.11.39 Do 17P damaged by French fighters
Robert,
Don't know whether its significant Peter Cornwell has this on 22 Nov 1939 relating to a Do 17P recce plane in combat with GC II/7. 4(F)./121 Dornier Do17P. Engaged by Adjt Valentin, S/Lt Gauthier. S/Lt Gruyelle and Sgt Lamblin of GC II/7 and pursued to Moos eventually forced-landing at Seefeld. west of Saltzburg. Lt R. Habermann died of injuries. Ll H. Boucher and Gefr H. Griindling badly wounded. Aircraft a write-off. Checked both Shores and Cornwell regarding aircraft recorded damaged/claimed by GC II/7 and could only come up with the above. Aircraft of GC 111/7 came into contact with a 3(F)./121 He 111, again on 22 Nov, and chased that into Belgium - the Heinkel, which the french pilot miss-identified as a Ju 88, subsequently crashed in Germany. Also can map your KTB sorties back to specific losses. However, the one that I cannot currently map is the sortie of the Dombrowsky crew.....so. Hope the above is of help.

Hi Andy,
thanks but I`m afraid that I`m not able to judge, which unit attacked this Do 17P. Regards Robert |
