Clint

To be honest, this one looks like C.2218 to me (just like the seller says)
Since I am hopeless with German two-seaters during WW 1 and even worse when it comes to wrecks, I cannot say what this is.

Since I also believe the two small digits above the actual Bestellnummer should be interpreted as 18, I think (think, mind you ) we are dealing with a DFW C.V C.2218/18

Cheers
Stig

Hi Stig,

It is the style of the serial number that inclines me to believe that this machine is an Aviatik.Do you have either the Aeronaut volume on Aviatik or any WDF at all. Worth a look if so.

Here's a link to a B.II photo. See what you think.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Aviatik C.I

I do Clint

But regardless of the style, you still have to face the fact that the digits are much more looking like 2218/18 then 3518/15 and the former did not belong to any Aviatik....

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Aviatik C.I

Stig,

I believe that the negative is reversed or something of that nature. The photo we are both viewing is not, I suggest how it appeard when taken. Note that the dot following the C appears in the image we see at the top of the C. The 3 and the 2 being reversed.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Aviatik C.I

Arrrgh

You are right of course Clint.
It is a glass plate and the seller has reversed it. Now it all make sense.
Wreck is up-side-down (or at least the part where the bestellnummer is)

Sigh....
Took a while for the penny to drop....

Cheers
Stig
