Junkers Ju 87A in Japan
Greetings all,
as you know one early Ju 87A was delivered to Japan for the test and possible manufacture in this country. I have only three poor images of this plane and as well general info state that this plane were delivered in the pattern of RLM 61, 62 and 63 colors on top side, it look like that even if it is delivered in that colors, it is very soon painted over. On images look that wings top surfaces get cover of three colors in irregular shapes while on fuselage some areas are painted over, as well original splinter scheme is still visible. Any info of this subject? Cheers

Re: Junkers Ju 87A in Japan
Hi,
To kick off the replies i found this info on the ju-87 The Japanese military forever interested in German aircraft production, were impressed by the offensive performance of the 'Stukas' during the German invasion of Poland in September 1939; they bought a Ju-87A-1 in 1940. The machine was painted in Japanese colours and production in Japan was considered for a time. But the Ju-87A-1 was only used as a technological model. It was taken to bits and studied from all possible angles (the Japanese Navy's 'Val' used dive brakes copied entirely from the Ju-87's) before being reassembled and exhibited in the Tokorozawa Museum, near Tokyo. It was subsequently destroyed during an American air raid. http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Ju-87A-St...er-Ju-87A.html link to photo http://www.wwiivehicles.com/germany/...uka-photos.asp model http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcar...m_num=SHY72169 Cheers Jerry |

Re: Junkers Ju 87A in Japan
I'm not sure about the sources that Jerry quoted, but RLM gave export permission for two Ju 87 A-1 (actually identified as K 1 in the document) on 9 October 1937. The aircraft were W.Nr. 870119 and 870120.
The Japanese wouldn't have been interested in an A version in 1940 but rather would have gone for the better B version instead, like they went for the latest versions of the Bf 109 E etc. /Mike Last edited by Mikael Olrog; 11th May 2010 at 17:54. |

Re: Junkers Ju 87A in Japan
I wrote about Ju 87 and the document I refered to was related to Ju 87 so what I stated in my original posting is still valid. Regarding Ju 86 export to Japan that is a totally different but also interesting topic not covered by this thread!
