ME262 - Mechanic on RAF Base

Hi

I've got a bit of a mystery which I hope someone can help with.
I have some paperwork relating to a man who served with Nahaufklärungsstaffel 12./12 and 2./NAGr. 6. He appears to have been a mechanic, and had training on the ME 262.

After the war he was kept as a POW until 1947, and was based at Fassberg RAF Base. He is listed on the paperwork as being part of a unit called D.A.Z.L. 22 (T)

Does this acronym mean anything to anyone?

Any info would be welcome!

Thanks in advance

Re: ME262 - Mechanic on RAF Base

Found references to "Deutscher Arbeitszug Luft“ which would mean German Work Detail, Air/Aviation.

Regards,
Leendert

I notice the Urlaubschein und Marschbefehl is for Dienstgruppen....

Dienstgruppen (German Service Groups) were disarmed Wehrmacht personnel and employed under the control of the Allied Authorities for the purpose of repair of war damage, for example, the collection, storage and destruction of war material for demining of former war zones, the areas of inventory, etc. etc.

They consisted in November 1945 of 110,000 soldiers, 45,000 Marines (mine clearing service) and 25,000 airmen. A few months later, mid-1947, all the prisoners were released and the membership of the Arbeits and Dienstgruppen was declared as voluntary.

Re: ME262 - Mechanic on RAF Base

Do you have his Soldbuch? Often a D.C.U. 5 is attached for Dienstgruppenpersonal ...... here is a Navy version.

H'mmmm I can't see how to add an image... only an URL.... thought it was simply "attach image" but can't see it anywhere....

Has image attachment been disabled and only a link (URL) can now be used?
