Re: Bf 109 losses of II./JG 3, Oct. 2nd and 3rd, 1943
Dear Jochen,
According to "Flieghorst Schiphol" by Ab Jansen on 3rd October 1943 at 11.59 hrs 14 Bf.109's of II/JG3 took off from Schiphol airfield to engage 72 incoming B-26's of 322nd and 323rd Bomb Group. Just after bombing the Bf.109's were engaged by the escorting Spitfires of the Coltishall Wing which were flying as High Cover. Two Bf.109's were claimed, one by W/Cdr Chadburn of the Coltishall Wing and one by F/O Dodds of 402 Squadron. In fact 2 Bf.109's were lost and 1 damaged: 20617, II/JG3 near Bovenkerk 19912, II/JG3 near Amstelveen 26027, Stab/JG3 at Schiphol The last one was damaged for 30% Unfortunately no codes or pilot names known. Kind regards, Hans Nauta |
