Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello,
Currently on ebay is an unusual photo of a Fokker D.VII. It has no markings either civil or military and appears all white(?) and the persons in the photo both wear military uniforms and civil clothing. Can anyone identify why the machine is so unusually painted? Its at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Flugzeug-Dop...MAAOSwSWZegcN0 Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a nice close up photo of Fokker D.VII F D.4356/18 at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Flugzeu...YAAOSwIzpe0YmW Which raises the obvious questions. Who is the pilot and what is the unit? Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Didn't Goering have an all white one in WW1?

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello Dan,
Correct. He flew D.VIIF D.5125/18. That one did at least have the usual crosses and a serial number and can be seen at: http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/produ...tid=3208&cat=1 Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
It is not impossible that Göring used an all white D.VII postwar as well.
That one could easily have been striped with black bands before he took it to Denmark and later to Sweden. In Swedish service it was again painted all white. All speculation of course and unfortunately the photo on e-bay is too mediocre and of course without any useful information, for anyone to really tell... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello Stig,
I wasn't aware of the facts you outline. Interesting. So its not known whether the Swedish D.VII 937 was earlier D.5125/18 rather than another D.VII flown by Göring? Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Clint. Photo 2BS..the broom was Hans Besser's marking ( Jasta 12 white nose) on 2 of his Fokkers (Besen = broom).
Photo 1~a....this must be 6666/18 (Alb) with diamond tail in US hands. Another photo shows the full serial. Adolf Auer flew another DVII with a star, but with black fuselage and white tail, ex-Rosenstein. Nick |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello Nick,
Thanks for the additional info which drove me to my copies of Ray Rimmel's Fokker Anthology. In volume 3 P.5 there is a post war photo of D.VII D.6666/18 (unless it is 6686 the picture is not completely clear and my eyesight is not 100%). This is not Hans Besser's machine a photo of which (assuming that it is the same machine, and not just one with identical markings) appears in Vol.1 P.48 where it is described as OAW built. Some photos appear of Auer's other D.VII with a Davidstern which Ray Rimmel says was recorded as 4043/18, but wrongly! Its british markings being G/2/27. Can anyone definitively provide the serials for either of Auer's Davidstern marked machine's or Hans Besser's machine with the Besen? Regards, Clint |
