White or yellow horizontal bar JG 300 Bf 109 G-10?
Hello,
Photos of Bf 109 G with JG 300 RVB and short black horizontal bar are known, but what about this one with a yellow or white short black horizontal bar over the RVB? I know of several examples of the short black bar, but that is the first one I have seen of a white or yellow bar on a JG 300 aircraft: https://www.jg300.de/wnr-151686.html Roger |

Re: White or yellow horizontal bar JG 300 Bf 109 G-10?
Maybe because it's a 5./JG51 machine, Fels am Wagram, May (or around) 1945, no ?

Re: White or yellow horizontal bar JG 300 Bf 109 G-10?
This would be a good theory Franck, but in the other photo from this place you can see that a "Black 6" from the same unit carries the yellow Gruppe bar too.
Perhaps this is the II./JG 51 and perhaps someone there decided that the II.-Gruppe-bar should be painted in the Gruppe color (yellow) rather than black. But this is just an unproven possibility. Sadly, the "9" in the background is to blurry to draw any conclusion from it. Don't know if the number is white or yellow, unsure if there is a yellow Gruppe bar or not. Is it even confirmed yet that this is Fels am Wagram? The landscape sure looks like it could be, but is there any proof? Cheers, Christian |

The original poster, Rick Hawkinson, over on Flickr.com, had no information whatsoever about time/place for those photos. The location is a hypothesis based on the hilly skyline which is consistent with captioned photos of Fels am Wagram. This topographical hypothesis is also the root for the II./JG 51 machines hypothesis - as Fels am Wagram was the last airfield used by this unit between March and 12 April 1945. If location is ascertained, then we have II./JG 51 planes - and it would be the only known II./JG 51 photos with an RVB rear fuselage band. Cheers Marc |

Yes, I meant II./JG51.
And, normally, "perhaps" should mean "it's a theory". Last, if I remember well the source of these images said it was Fels. |

Marc,
I tried to find Rick Hawkinson's account at Flickr, but could only find one with that name, but that was created in 2016, years after you found the photos of the Bf 109s. Do you know or can you check if his account still exists? Thanks! Roger |
