He111 Identification, KG26 February 1940
Hello,
I am German and currently researching the military history of my hometown Neumünster during WWII. There was an military airfield and from 39-45 some groups like II./JG77, III./JG11(was formed here), II./JG26 were stationed here. Maybe sometime in the future i will have some questions regarding them but for the moment i am interested i one machine..
On February 22nd/23rd, 1940, during "Operation Wikinger", a He111, as far as i know from KG26, stationed here in Neumünster at that time, hit the Zerstörer Z 1 Leberecht Maass two times. The ship sank by insufficient communication between the Luftwaffe and the Kriegsmarine.
As you can read here, the He111, 1H+IM from the 4th Squadron of KG26 was flown by Feldwebel Jäger. Referring to this, the 4th Squadron from II./KG26 was stationed at that time here in Neumünster, but unfortunately, i can't find anything about this pilot or this machine...maybe the facts from this site are fake...
Do you know anything more about this incident, this machine or this pilot ?
Thanks for help and sorry for bad english
Dennis
