JG 2 and St.Kpt. Benno Eder

Hello!
This time I am seeking some information on Benno Eder, from JG 2.
He was St.Kpt. and in tthe aces list, I have seen him listed with 6 victories.
Did he fell in aerial combat April 27, 1944 and if so, what plane did he fly?
My guess is a Fw 190A-?
Is the markings on his airplane known and maybe the W.nr.?
Thank You in advance.
Christian

Re: JG 2 and St.Kpt. Benno Eder

I do not know if this is of any help I have a list of JG 2 casualties which for 27th April 1944 gives Maj. Kurt Ubben (Kdre.) killed and Lt. Karl-Heinz Elsner wounded. It would appear that if Benno Eder was shot down this day he suffered no injuries, and his name does not come up after this date. However Ltn. Elsner was later reported missing in the Caen area on 16th July 1944.

Re: JG 2 and St.Kpt. Benno Eder

Hello Brian!
Thank You for the reply!
This could turn out to be a mystery, because i have a death card from the period with his picture on it.
It says, he was a St.Kpt. in a JG, was awardw EK I & II.
Born May 10. 1922 in Neumburg vorm Wald and Eder is burried in Pau in southern France.
Could this be another Eder, that we do not know anything about?
All the best
Christian

Re: JG 2 and St.Kpt. Benno Eder

Hello Christian,
I beleive the Fighter action involving JG 2 and JG 26 on 27th. April was in the Reims area, if Benno Eder is buried at Pau could he have been serving with a training unit at the time? I have no information on such losses, however a couple of years ago the French magazine Avions had a series covering the losses of Luftwaffe 'second line' units in France during 1944. Unfortunately I only obtained the three magazines covering January to March, if April was covered in a later edition perhaps this could help,
All the Best
Brian

Re: JG 2 and St.Kpt. Benno Eder

The publication of the loss list of German schools in France in the magazine Avions was stopped after the article on March 1944 . They claimed at the time that they will continue the serie "in the future".

Re: JG 2 and St.Kpt. Benno Eder

Thanks for the information about Avions I hope the series continues in the future. Looking at the loss lists for January to March 1944 it shows JG 101 had several losses in the Pau area is there a possibility Benno Eder served with this unit?

Re: Benno Eder

In my data base (thanks matti! ) I have the information that he was killed at 11.15 on 27 Apr 1944 when his FW190 collided at take off with another aircraft ("Beim Start ein anderes Flugzeug gerammt. Bruch 100 %.").

He was then 1./JGr. West.

Hope this information helps you.
