Lt Alfred Schwab - 68th TRG
Good night to all!
I would like to know about this Mustang (Allison) pilot, who flew over North Africa, probably with 68th TRG or 111th TRG. Any information about his recon-flights? Did he survive WW2? How many missions flown? I tried to find out something about him, but got no joy... Glad for any help or information Adriano |

Re: Lt Alfred Schwab - 68th TRG
Adriano,
I have a feeling that this is the man you're looking for. See: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg...GRid=21689667& Also found that he was the first pilot to fly a USAAF P-51 over enemy territory. This was in April 1943 in a recon mission over Tunisia. (Note: RAF Mustangs had done so more than a year earlier over France...) Regards, Leendert |

Interesting that this fellow took a job after the war at Dahlberg Electronics, founded by P-51/P-47 Ace Ken Dahlberg.

Re: Lt Alfred Schwab - 68th TRG
Leendert,
Thank you! Very nice of yours to share this background and post-war information on Lt Alfred Schwab Jr. I was actually looking about his reconnaissance flights over Tunisia. He made the first USAAF Mustang recon over that Theater of War, and I thought that maybe I could track down his WAR career. But you added a very interesting information: that he crashed landed ( shot down ) during one mission. Thanks for sharing the information Adriano |

Re: Lt Alfred Schwab - 68th TRG
Adriano,
I don't know about Schwab being shot down as written in his obituary, but he's recorded to have had a landing accident at Ajaccio, Corsica in P-38H 42-67081 on 29 April 1944. Unit was 154th TRS, 68th TRG. Regards, Leendert |
