Re: III/ZG 1 Tunisa ME 210 losses
Hi!
From exellent book by John Vasco, I extrakt losses of Me210. All aircrafts are noted as Me210A, but looking on photoes, showing improved engines and enlenght fuselage, and it is need to correct it to Me210C-1 (as Me210Ca-1), noted in table as Me210A-1 lang. Also, some W.Nummers of "Me210A"s are from "Me210A-1 lang" banch. Also, You may find a part from production table, showing production of Me210's.

Re: III/ZG 1 Tunisa ME 210 losses
Regardless of the W.Nr. of the aircraft, no short-bodied Me 210s ever went into combat. Although some short-bodied Me 210s were shown as crashing while part of an operational unit, they were, in fact, part of the OTU for the unit and were on conversion training to the Me 210. Johannes Kaufmann gives an interesting account of his time in this conversion unit in 1941-42 in his book, "Meine Flugberichte 1935 - 1945." He was satisfied with the short-bodied Me 210 as being more potent than the Bf 110, and was disappointed when he had to return to the Bf 110.
But, the short-bodied Me 210 had real problems with longitudinal stability during landing and take-off, and the people who had just come through the Zerstorer pipe-line couldn't handle this. Kaufmann, with his time on the Bf 110, had the air sense to overcome this problem and to really enjoy his time on the Me 210. I have been asked to do a book on the Me 210/410 because I have been researching the aircraft for more than 30 years and have more test data that I could ever want, but would appreciate any material you might have on the work of the Me 210 in North Africa. Thanks, and all the best, George |

Re: III/ZG 1 Tunisa ME 210 losses
Neither 145 Sqn nor PFT claimed victories on anything other than Me 109s.

Re: III/ZG 1 Tunisa ME 210 losses
Hi
Realize that Evgeny might be offline for a long period. I have details of all the losses you asked about, James. There are som discrepancies between my records and the loss list linked from him, mostly that he or the person that made this listing have included the losses of 11. Staffel in the listing on III. Gruppe losses. I realize that these units might have operated in tandem, but there is no doubt that the 11. Staffel were counted as part of a IV. Gruppe, and their losses are at no time reported as III. Gruppe (in typical Luftwaffe fashion there are one questionable one on 13.11.1942, if the listing is correct, the aircraft in question is reported as III./Z.G.1 by GenQu, but listed as 11. Staffel in the list. The code 3E + NQ is not a III. Gruppe Z.G.1 code either, but a KG 6 code, so the loss obviously occured before thay had time to repaint the aircraft, and the command structure might have been unclear at this specific point). (These are losses on 25.1.1942, 28.11.1942, 29.11.1942, 27.12.1942 and 24.03.1943) Regards, Andreas B |

Here You may find several articles of Alexan der Bulakh, about Me210/Me410. In one of parts, he describe "African journey" of III./ZG 1 very detailed. I dont know, what sourse he used, but it is seemed for me very much that it was KTB of III./ZG 1, compared with RAF/USAAF reports, claims and losses. Unfortunatly, issues are in russian, and it is in .jpg format ![]() Now I have no time to help more, I am very sorry. Need to go sleep, wake up very early tomorrow ![]()
