808 Squadron Battle of Britain

Hi guys

Eight pilots of newly formed 808 Squadron on Fulmars were awarded the Battle of Britain Clasp. I understand the unit was based at Castletown. Do we know when these pilots flew operational sorties to qualify for the award?
Cheers
Brian

Brian,

Part of the answer in following story: http://www.flyingmarines.com/Biograp...1-1940/Hay.htm

Scroll down to 11. General. No 808 Squadron was attached to Fighter Command for some time in 1940.

Regards,

Leendert

Re: 808 Squadron Battle of Britain

Thanks Leendert

I assume they flew convoy patrols to earn the Clasp.

Cheers

Re: 808 Squadron Battle of Britain

According to the Men of the Battle of Britain all 8 flew dockyard patrols from July until October. Their last base of Donibristle would put them on the frontline for defence against strikes from Norway, so I would suppose that entitles them to the clasp.

Hello Brian
I'm fine, thank You. But have been very busy. Over a week from the last visit on this board! Hopefully my workload will lessen in future.
