Hello ,
On november 29th 1944 P-47 serialnumber 42-28825 from 56 FG crashlanded in Belgium. Can somebody tells me who the pilot was and what happened to him. Thanks |

Good afternoon Alain !
According the book "Beware the Thunderbolt", did 2nd Lt. Richard Hale, 62nd FS, crash-land on the continent after he ran out of fuel. 2nd Lt. William Stovall, 62nd FS, crashlanded at Halesworth due to mechanical problems. 2nd Lt. Leo Ulfers, 61st FS, had to land on continent for fuel and was considered "not yet reported" for a period. These "losses" are exactly matching up with the original Mission Summary report of 56th FG ( AFHRA microfilm B0151, page 1648) for this day, but not giving names and Squadrons. So, your man should be 2nd Lt. Richard Hale. Best regards ! Horst Weber |
