Loss He 111H-3. WNr.5670

Hello,

Seeking information on the crew of He 111H-3 (WNr.5670). III. / KG 40. Loss the 24 April 1941 to Créhen (Brittany). Eight kilometers southwest of the airfield Dinard.

I research what was the mission so far.
Thank you

Armed recce St George's & Bristol Channel but crashed on approach to Dinard due to pilot error. Uffz Herbert Dagott-F, Gefr Heinz Pieperheit-B, Uffz Wilhelm Baier-BM all killed Gefr Bruno Sengespeik-BF-injured. Apparently 5 He 111s from III/KG 40 bombed Lands End, dropping 24 SC 250s

Ok thank you Chris.
Why had it on the airfield Dinard?
The III/KG 40 was not in Brest?
There are pictures of the crew?

Heinkel identified thanks to its plate, just found a few pieces.

Same aircraft had battle damage during aerial combat on 16 Apr 41 of unknown %. Fw. Schoppe Edgar Bf was WIA on that day.

Guys

Seems you all agree the date is April 24th. Is this 100% verified?
Reason I ask is that MY second hand source 1941 Part 2 The turning point by Foreman lists the date as the 23rd....

Cheers
Stig

Re: Loss He 111H-3. WNr.5670

Hi,

I have 5670 as an H-3 produced by Heinkel at Oranienburg, backed up by Griehl's 111 book, although we could have both used same primary information source. From the actual plate is it definite that the number is 5670; also can you say what the digits are in the date box?

The above does not necessarily mean that the aircraft is not 5670 but it could indicate either errors in the records or possibly a large sub-assembly supplied by ATG.

Curious!

Regards,

David

Primary source (BA-MA RL 2 III/753) gives date as 23.4.41 and causes as Pilot error
(and Griehl is wrong).
