Need photo of Gen. Stratemeyer's personal P-38L
This a/c was not a bombsight-equipped droop snoot P-38, but was very similar. A special mod by Hindustan Aircraft of a P-38L, it had a second seat ahead of and below the pilot, behind a transparent nose.
I just acquired the Dragon kit of the droop snoot, which includes the markings for Stratemeyer's personal a/c. I need to see if his plane had side windows as well as the clear nose cap. The kit's one major gaffe is that it omits those windows. That's a problem if you want to build the "genuine" droop snoot; but the Stratemeyer plane was a one-off and may have been different. I am nearly certain that I've seen a photo (in a book, years back) of Stratemeyer's plane, with the CBI badge on its nose. So, I hope the photo is out there somehere and that someone can post a scan or a link here. TIA |

Answering my own query
Thinking about this after posting, it occurred to me to get the appropriate bound volume of Aircraft in Profile off the shelf. Sure enough, the Profile covering later P-38 variants has an excellent shot of Stratemeyer's plane.
I knew I had seen it in a book ![]() |
