Oberleutnant Rudolf Abrahamczic KG2/KG51
Would any of you fine people have some biographical details of Abrahamczic? I know he flew with 14/KG2, was awarded the Ritterkreuz and ended the war in KG51 but what happened to him before and after?
The reason I ask is a Polish friend of mine pointed out he had a rather Polish/Silesian sounding name and we were wondering about his origin and eventual fate. Our thanks in advance. |

Re: Oberleutnant Rudolf Abrahamczic KG2/KG51
This is not much help but in Veit Scherzer's book Die Träger des Deutsches Kreuzes in Gold der Luftwaffe 1941-1945, Abrahamczik (note the spelling) was awarded the DKiG on 12.01.43 as a Leutnant in 6./KG 40. This unit flew the Do 217. In June 1943 6./KG 40 was redesignated 5./KG 2.
As an Oberleutnant and Staffelkapitän of 14./KG 2 he claimed a 4-engine aircraft shot down on the night of 27/28.09.43 while flying an Me 410A. According to Theo Boiten in Nachtjagd War Diaries, Abrahamczik survived the war with the rank of Hauptmann. I was unaware that he was a Ritterkreuzträger. Do you have the date of the award? Best wishes, Tom |

Re: Oberleutnant Rudolf Abrahamczic KG2/KG51
29th February 1944 was the date he was awarded the KC, two pictures of Abrahamczik clearly wearing it are to be found on page 135 of Petrick and Stocker's "Messerschmitt Me 210/Me 410 Hornet" book. Thank you for the help.

Re: Oberleutnant Rudolf Abrahamczic KG2/KG51
According to some of his documents, his first op was with I/KG 2 on 27 Aug 41 and he had flown 37 by 22 Sep 41. He was still with I/KG 2 at the end of May 1942 as he was shot up by a 3 Sqn Hurricane at Gilze that night. He flew over Dieppe in 19 Aug 42 but not sure if this was with 6/KG 40 or KG 2. He came back to KG 2 20 Jun 43 when II/KG 40 became V/KG 40

Re: Oberleutnant Rudolf Abrahamczic KG2/KG51
Once again many thanks to all, and thank you Chris for adding more information. He seems an interesting character and after reading Simon Parry's "Intruders Over Britain" I've become increasingly interested in the Luftwaffe's post 1941 actions over the UK, Steinbock, Gisela etc... a very absorbing subject. I look forward to your new book on nocturnal fighter bomber operations Chris, I'll pre-order at Amazon I think.
