Any info on Ju 87B, W.Nr. 199?
Does anyone have any info on Ju 87B, W.Nr. 199? It has a peculiar, large, white 1 on the fuselage, just behind the Balkenkreuz, with no other codes visible. Camouflage appears to be standard RLM 70/71/65. The airplane was photographed on Luneburg airfield, in 1938.

Close - but no...
The nearest I have is WNr.197, which was a Ju 87B-1 of 5./St.G.77, lost over the Crimea (Sebastopol) in 1942, but 199 is certainly a very early B-1; I have a Ju 87A (WNr.173) lost with SG103 in 1944. Unfortunately (as you probably know, Denis) very-early-war losses were not as completely documented as they later became, and plenty of 1939 & 1940 entries list only aircraft type.
The photo of this B with the large "weisse 1" peaked my curiousity as well. Sorry this wasn't more help, GRM |
