Hurricane - French Beach, December 1940

Can anyone suggest any clues to identify this incident?

The caption suggests the picture to have been taken on 1 December 1940.

Whilst the caption also calls this a "Spitfire" it is, clearly, a Hurricane.

Any ideas anyone?
