II./JG 2 in May 1943

Hello jeanba

II./JG 2 was equipped with the Bf 109 G-3 (3), G-4 (10) and G-6 (5) at the beginning of May 1943 therefore he could not have been flying the Fw 190 that month. The Gruppe re-equipped with the Bf 109 during April 1943 following its return to the Channel Front from North Africa. I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Leo

II./JG 2 in May 1943

Hello jeanba

It may be that the RAF pilots confused the Bf 109 fighters for Fw 190 fighters or that 315 Sqn, RAF engaged a unit other than II./JG 2. The Strength Returns for II./JG 2 show the Gruppe equipped with Bf 109 fighters in May 1943. Here is the link: www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/jagd/biijg2.html The only photograph or profile of his Fw 190 with JG 2 that I have seen is of his Fw 190 A-4 "Yellow 1" (W.Nr. 0140 748) in North Africa. Have you already seen that one?

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Rudorffer's FW in May 43

Just to clarify, in the period March 1943 until well into 1944, Stab and II./JG 2 were equipped with the G-2,4 and 6. The loss reords make that quite clear. 11. and 12./JG 2 had G-3s. Occasionally, a G-3 will show up with II Gruppe.

Re: Rudorffer's FW in May 43

Is there a profil of the II/JG2's 109 at this time ?

Did they have "gun pods" ?
Edit :
Anyway, by checking where Ruddorfer's kills were claimed : in Picardie, it seems that he fought Ramrod 297/II which was targeting Poix.
