Asians in the RAF in WW2
Seeing that there is already a thread on 'Blacks in the RAF' I thought members might like to see the attached link giving details of many Indians who also served during WW2 both in the Far East and in the UK.

Re: Asians in the RAF in WW2
For the best site, and the most knowledgeable person on Indians in the RAF and IAF, I would suggest contacting JaganP and visiting his site:
http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Hi...40s/index.html And a book that some of us are awaiting with excitment is: http://www.amazon.co.uk/King-Another...6838639&sr=8-1 A |

Re: Asians in the RAF in WW2
Asians in the RAF were not limited to Indians.
I recall one Spitfire pilot from Thailand.

Re: Asians in the RAF in WW2
I wasn't being too specific - I used Indians / Asians as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka etc didn't exist as separate nations at the time! Feel free to add anyone who fits this broad catagory.

Re: Asians in the RAF in WW2
Hello Guys,
For a long time i have been trying to ID 'Sgt N Peiris who flew with 130 sqn on Spitfires Vb in June,1943. I assume the name originates from Ceylon (Sri Lanka), any help would be most grateful in identifying him. I do not know if this name was corrupted in the RAF, the nearest I have found is P/O Noel Pereira RIAF2436b who was MIA on 9-12-44 age 20. he was from Calcutta and is commemorated on the Delhi/Karachi Memorial. Regards, Roy |

Quote:
14/4/43 1 Bf109 probable 15/10/43 1 Fw190 confirmed shared + 1 damaged 11/4/45 2 Ju88 destroyed on ground, shared with 2 pilots. I don't know MH Yi's claims (please Frank Olynyk may help us?), maybe Khin could be the top Burmese scorer of WW2. Flavio |

Re: Asians in the RAF in WW2
Two Burmese pilots served with 607 Sq: I can dig out their names if you wish. From memory, for what that's worth, one was shot down and the other went on to reach high rank in the postwar Burmese Air Force.
