Beaufighter Dataplates

Hi Guys.

Can anybody tell me exactly where to find Dataplates on a Beau??
There is a deep dive on a Beaufighter going to try and id a wreck.
For this the divers need to find a plate.
This is important as we think it is of a wreck where the crew is still listed as missing, and we would like to make sure that it is of a South African Beaufighter.
Can anybody help??
Thx.

Re: Beaufighter Dataplates

From memory, and as with quite a few British aircraft, I seem to think it is located somewhere near the fuel cocks. However, depending upon conditions/state of preservation you will find that most removable panels (cowlings etc) on a Beau will have the serial number stencilled on the inside in black paint in letters about 3/4inch high on the light green interior paint. If you can retrieve any of these panels it might be easier than looking inside the wreck itself.

Re: Beaufighter Dataplates

hello,
From the film it looks as though a start was made to find details as the nose cone has been removed. If the pannel shown is next removed there should be a data plate under it that would show (I think) details of any serial number and modifications/repairs.
