Relic clock from a HE177 ? New Pictures

Hello,

Just uploaded some better pictures. I could really do with some help here was this clock used in the HE177 or any other type of Heinkel. In answer to Andy Saunders question it shows no sign of being tampered with.
It has no markings that i can see.

Thanks
Jon

Re: Relic clock from a HE177 ? New Pictures

Finally after much searching think I it may be a FL23888 BO-UK-3 made by Schlenker- Grusen.
Its not with its back case, hence the missing numbers etc...
Andy Saunders was spot on, but it has no damage as these clocks look to just pull out of the housing for maintenance etc..

Same question were these used in the HE177
Did the rear gunner have a clock too?

Difficult to say, these clocktypes was used in many aircraft types. Many clocks in german aircraft where produced by Junghans.Your clock type is a typical radio wall clock type with this hinge system, locked in a cup.

Re: Relic clock from a HE177 ? New Pictures

There now seems to be two threads on the same subject.....???!!

As I noted in other thread, (Here: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=21354) this seems to be a 23888 and yet it does not have the four bolt retaining holes as part of the casing. In some respects, it is similar to the FL 22600 which was an aircraft instrument panel clock and I wonder if it is a variant of that but with a 23888 type face/numerals?

I am not sure that the 23888 was a Duty Clock (ground based radio operators/watch office clock) or an aircraft instrument panel clock. The 22600 was certainly an aircraft clock, but some reference sources do not show the 23888 as an aircraft clock per se.

Re: Relic clock from a HE177 ? New Pictures

Snap!!!! I too have exactly the same type of clock, unfortunately i too could find no visible serial number or manufacturer. I posted a thread requesting information on 10th January 2010, with no luck. Searching the web, there is a similarity to Junghans clocks particularly the hour hand, it appears that the shape is a sort of trade mark. If anybody has the answer it would solve two queries at the same time!

Jon

I am afraid that it is unfortunately very common for items to be faked up - as many of us know. A favourite trick is for items from "anonymous" Russian (Luftwaffe) wrecks to have elaborate UK Battle of Britain histories applied to them and then sold on to unsuspecting or gulible collectors at significantly higher values than would otherwise be the case! Additionally, there are those who are not beyond re-painting relics to represent something they are not - one particularly well known example being a fragment of Dornier 17-P from a documented French loss being re-painted with a portion of swastika and sold on as a portion of Me 109 E tail fin from the Battle of Britain!

A pot of Dulux white and one of Dulux Black....and there you are!!
