Re: Luftwaffe loss 08.06.1944 Italy (Mallachow, Manfred and Hoffmann Paul)

Hi everybody and thank you in advance for helping
I founded the loss of this crew in a old local newspaper. Many people saw at that time the fight between this 2 engine airplane and so called spitfires in the skies over my city, Cortona, south of Tuscany.
I founded in a book Air War Italy 1944-45 by D'Amico, Valentini and Beale that there was a lost airplane that day " from 1.(F)/123,
"...sent out five aircraft that day, had lost a Ju 88T-1 (W.Nr.430913, 4U+GH), along with Obfhr. Scherpf and his three fellow crewmen, all killed. German sources put the crash southeast of Chiusi (SI)" . The name of Scherpf is not reported in my old newpaper, and the name of the crew is not reported in the book, so I can't crosslink the info. But if they were enrolled in 1.F 123...I think we could say that they were in that airplane. I'm trying to recover parts from the crash site, that I was able to identify with the help of old people who were there at that time.
In my area there was another crash of a german airplane the 22nd og jenuary of 1944...any info?
Best regards, Andrea "Nibele"

The full crew was Ofhr. Heinz Scherf (observer); Uffz. Heinz Rutter (pilot); Uffz. Paul Hoffmann (listed as "Bd.", so possibly Bordschütze); Uffz. Manfred Malachow (radio operator).

Dear Nick
Thank you because you were able to let me link the name of the pilot (that was missed in the newspaper) and the three aircrew reported with their names. May you add other info on the wrek and on the gruppe or airplane? I already asked Fernando (he helped me a lot on writing my little book on pilots of my city, Cortona) and he was just able to tell me what he wrote on your book. Today a witness show me (he says for sure 100%) the wreck site and I'll start metaldetecting the area soon.
Thank you again, I hope to be able to give you something back ( if you want I can send a CD with my collection of pictures from Regia collected from the families during the period I was writing the book Aquile di Chiana).
Ciao, Andrea "Nibele"

I don't think that I have anything else. The names came from the casualty report that I obtained while we were writing the book but we could not name all the crew members of big aircraft for reasons of space.

If you have our book, as you said, then the information about 1.(F)/123 is there.

Of course I have it! However I'm always looking for more info. As I told you, I am friend with Ferdinando, he helped me a lot on writing my book on local pilots from my town...we both are from tuscany, and already probed with him all the informations. You added alot referring the correct name of the pilot, who was wrongly reported as Richter from the press of the period, and the crew, matching with the other names!
Again..if you have something about the loss in jenuary...your book starts from June...
Ciao, Andrea Nibele.
