KG 1 losses 11-7-1940
Seeking details of the loss of two He111s reported as falling to 145 Sqd. on the 11th July off Selsey Bill,

I./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Crash-landed at Montdidier due to engine failure on return from sortie to Portsmouth and attack by Hurricanes of Nos.145 and 601 Squadrons 6.00 p.m. No crew casualties. Aircraft 40% damaged but repairable.
1./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Shot down in the Channel during sortie to Portsmouth and attack by Hurricanes of Nos.145 and 601 Squadrons 6.00 p.m. FF Lt Peter Wagner, BS Hptmn Karl-Heinz Behrens, HB Oberfw Werner Bischoff, BF Uffz Hans Krause, and BM Uffz Walter Möhring all killed. Aircraft 100% write-off. The bodies of this crew were all later washed shore on the French coast. 1./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Crashed and burned out at Ligny-Thilloy, 3 km south of Bapaume, on return from sortie to Portsmouth and attack by Hurricanes of Nos.145 and 601 Squadrons 6.00 p.m. BO Lt Helmut Grunwald, FF Uffz Fridolin Hogg, BF Obergefr Herbert Köster and BM Uffz Günther Mende all killed. Aircraft 100% write-off. |

Quite so. Möhring remains missing I believe. Entry amended thus: 1./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Shot down in the Channel during sortie to Portsmouth and attack by Hurricanes of Nos.145 and 601 Squadrons 6.00 p.m. FF Lt Peter Wagner, BS Hptmn Karl-Heinz Behrens, HB Oberfw Werner Bischoff, and BF Uffz Hans Krause all killed, BM Uffz Walter Möhring missing. Aircraft 100% write-off. The bodies of four of this crew later came ashore on the French coast. |

Thank you very much Matti, so I was right all along. I can only assume that Rémi must have done as I did and checked the VDK database using the lazy version of MOEHRING rather than MÖHRING and got a nil result. Their system used to be more forgiving than that. Many thanks for the re-correction - original entry now restored.
