Looking for information on Y96 air field in Kassel

I am researching the Allied Air Forces use of the air fields in Kassel Germany near the end of the War, and the years up through the 1950s. I have a decent amount of information on there use of the one at Rothwesten, but very little about the small one in Waldau, latter called Y96, that Fieseler's #3 factory was located at.

I found that the US used this for some years after the War, but can not find any details.

393bird,

Try a look on website: http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb/fieseler%20werke.htm

It has some links at the bottom as well that give some details about later use.

Waldau appears to have been the base for 10th Air Depot Group in 1945.
It also had the 48th FG (P-47) for two weeks during April 1945.
Waldau had a 4000 x 120 ft runway.

There have been some USAAF landing accidents on Y-96: two involving a C-47 in April 1945, one with an F-5C in June 1945 and one with a P-47 due to an engine failure in November 1945.

Regards,

Leendert

Leendert:

Thanks for the information. That web page is mine, and I am trying to gather some details on what happened at Waldau near the end of the War.

I was in the US Army in Kassel from 1963-66. I worked at the Fieseler Werks #2 site, within eye sight of that air field.

I added your information to the web page.

Thanks,
Bruce
