II/ZG76 losses and claims, August 29, 1941

On August 29, 1941 Bf110s of II/ZG76 in combat with 19 squadron, RAF Spitfires claiming four Spitfires shot down.

Can anyone add details for these combats (I have details of the sucessful pilots and the RAF losses) and were there any Luftwaffe losses ?

Thanks,

Ian

Re: II/ZG76 losses and claims, August 29, 1941

Christer Bergström gave some details about this battle on this post: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/archiv...hp?t-5131.html

"I can only add that the four Spitfires on 29 August 1941 were shot down by II./ZG 76 "Haifischgruppe" (by Lt Drewes, Ofws Kornatzki and Spitzer, and Gefr. Bopp) against no other own losses than an injured radio operator (Gefr. Alfred Bunke) - a not at all uncommon result for this very successful Zerstörergruppe."

A rather bad period for 19 Sqn RAF, on the other hand.

John Foreman, in his "Fighter Command War Diaries vol 2 (Sept 40-Dec 41), says that 19 Sqn met four Bf 110s of 6./2G 76 off Holland, "clearly practicing bombing off the coast".

Tony Wood claims file has the following four claims:
29/08/1941 Ofw. Lambert Spitzer 6. ZG 76 Spitfire 33.2: 150m 10.50 - - yes C.2033/I Anerk: Nr.70
29/08/1941 Ofw. Heinz Kornacker 6. ZG 76 Spitfire 33.2: 150-200m 10.53 - - yes C.2033/I Anerk: Nr.71
29/08/1941 Gefr. Max-Ottmar Bopp 6. ZG 76 Spitfire 33.1: 600m 10.57 - - yes C.2033/I Anerk: Nr.72
29/08/1941 Ltn. Martin Drewes 6. ZG 76 Spitfire 33.2: 650m 11.00 - - yes C.2033/I Anerk: Nr.30

Gefr Bopp was very probably the gunner aboard one Bf 110 and not the pilot.
