Identification of crashed WW2 US Aircraft by B&T Indicator
Hi all !
I have this B&T Indicator front part (display only, see image attached) of an US bomber that crashed in Germany (Ruhr area) in WW2. Would it be possible to identify the aircraft type ? I have a strong lead for an A-26 (43-22303), however I was told initially it was a Marauder (B-26), which was probably wrong. The only text on this instrument is: A.F. U.S. ARMY TYPE A-11 BANK AND TURN INDICATOR A17-2U Would it be possible to exclude B-26 and other bomber types and rule in particularly A-26 ? Thank you kindly in advance, FrankieS Last edited by FrankieS; 14th June 2011 at 01:40. |

Look at WarbirdTECH Series - Douglas A-26 Invader, pag. 95 (A-26B) for example...

Re: Identification of crashed WW2 US Aircraft by B&T Indicator
Look at some pictures of A-26 cockpits taken during WWII.
http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/Im...A-26fInst1.pdf http://ookaboo.com/o/pictures/pictur...ckpit_interior I think the A-11 was a pretty standard Turn and Bank instrument used in a great many WWII Army Air force planes. There may have been some minor variations if different versions were used, but I suspect they were all interchangeable. I would not think that the A-26 would use any "special" or unique instrument. |
