Recon Bf109 shot down 8-24-43

On August 24th,1943, a Spitfire IX (JK980) of 109
MU claimed a reconnaissance Bf109G off the Libyan coast.

Any ideas on a possible unit?

Hi

You're obviously referring to Sqn Ldr Jeff West RNZAF, about whom I have recently enquired. He was flying with 103 MU not 109 MU.

Apparently his 'victim' was not shot down.

There were, apparently, no 109 losses, or even damaged ones listed for this day in the Med.
