Question on when 1.(F)/124 first began operating the Ju88?

Hello,

In doing the Ju88 profile layouts for the EOE research project, I've learned that 1.(F)/124 was operating from Aalborg/West and Trondheim/Vaernes with Ju88s, Hellls and Do215s during January of 1941. Can anyone tell me when that unit received, and first began operating the Ju88? I would assume that they did so at least during the last quarter of 1940, but that is only speculation on my part. The Luft Order of Battle for Aug. 13, 1940, doesn't indicate that there were any Ju88s on hand as of that date. If they were operating the Ju88 during 1940, can anyone refer me to any photos that might exist of Ju88s in operational service with that unit during the 1940 period?

Thanx,

Regards,

1.(F)124 arrived in Aalborg on the 18th of January 1941 and operated at that time with 13 Do 215, 2 Bf 110 and one He 111. They recieved their first 9 Ju88A-5 and D-1 on the 15th of February.

Delmenhorst,

Thanx. That's exactly what I needed to know. It would thus appear that 1.(F)/124 did NOT fly the Ju88 during the 1940 period of the EOE Project, but only got them 2.41.

Regards,

Hi Larry.

Get hold of the 1(F)/124 book by Werner Fehse. It gives you nearly everything you need to know about the unit.

Could you please provide more details about Horst's book?

The only book about this unit that I know of is "Die Chronik der 1. Staffel (F) Aufklärungsgruppe 124", self-published by Werner Fehse in 1999. Is that the one you're referring to?

Hi Leon.

Yes it, s the same. I'm not at home, so I mistook the name of autor, because I did correspond a lot with Werner, who was a former member of that unit.

Hi Junker,

Thanks for the clarification.

BTW, I happened to look at the sources that Fehse lists in the back of his book, and Werner Horst's name shows up there. Also, googling his name brought up some interesting material too -- glad you mentioned him!

Hope you have a very Happy New Year!
