Hello All,
I have a few questions of ME109G-5/AS 'Black Double Chevron' of Theodor Weissenberger: 1. What was the W.Nr. of this aircraft? 2. Are there any known fotos of this aircraft? 3. For the end of July 1944, how many kills did he have? As always, thanks very much for any information provided ![]() |

ME 109 G-5/AS 'Black Double Chevron' of Theodor Weissenberger
Hello Oberst
I do know that he was flying Bf 109 G-5/AS (W.Nr. 110 256) when he was shot down in aerial combat near St Andre on 12 June 1944. There are several photographs taken on the occasion of his 200th victory on 25 July 1944 included in Aircraft of the Luftwaffe Fighter Aces Vol. I by Barbas which depict what is identified as a Bf 109 G-6. He had claimed 200 victories by the end of July 1944. I am including what I have on this ace in case it may be helpful. Any comments or corrections to any of this will be most welcome. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y4VFL3DX Horrido! Leo |

Re: ME109G-5/AS 'Black Double Chevron' of Theodor Weissenberger
Yes Leo thanks for that information my friend. The foto in the book Luftwaffe Fighter Aces Vol. It does indeed show a G-6 but unfortunatly not the G-5/AS I'm looking for.
I read that the majority of P47 he shot down was with W.Nr. 110 256. Heres the quote: ' This Me 109G 5/AS was assigned to leading P 47 killer Hauptmann Theodor Weissenberger whilst he was Gruppenkommandeur of I./JG 5, based at Gardelegen, in Germany, June 1944. Wearing textbook set of Kommandeur's markings in the form of 'double cheverons', this is the aircraft that he flew to the Normandy front shortly after the Allied invasion of June , 1944. He used this machine to down the 13 P 47s he claimed destroyed in June/July 1944 ' |
