Oberleutnant Josef Pöhs
Hello Melvin
According to Jagdgeschwader 400 by Stephen Ransome and Hans-Hermann Cammann he was killed when the undercarriage dolly of Me 163A V8 "CD + IM" (W.Nr. 163 000 0005) bounced higher than normal following release and struck the underside of the aircraft rupturing a T-Stoff fuel line thus prompting an installed safety device to shut down the engine. In attempting to return to Bad Zwischenahn one of the wings clipped the tower of the radio ground station antenna causing the aircraft to cartwheel into the ground where it exploded. I hope this helps you. Horrido! Leo |

Re: Oblt. Josef Poehs (RK) + 30.12.1943 Further info please!
Melvin, good night!
May I recommend the excellent and very well written book by Major Wolfgang Späte: "Top Secret Bird - The Luftwaffe's Me 163 Komet" There are several interesting aspects of the Komet flights and the Ekdo 16 as well. On the back of this book there is a really nice picture of the RK-trägers that flew the Komet in action (including Pöhs ). Unfortunately the book is not at hand now.... I can not remember by memory now, if on the JG 54 Grunherz's book by Werner Held and all...there are more photographs of Pöhs. Both books are fully recommended, by the way! Yours Adriano S.
