Re: Herky Green's ground kills

Greetings: What specific information are you interested in regarding this mission which occurred on 21 August 1944?

Art, who posted above took part in that particular mission.
In this book:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=15154
I published the details of that particular mission from both sides (the Axis side too), for which Herky Green received the DSC.
Green himself also mentioned this particular mission in his reminiscences:
http://www.amazon.com/Herky-The-Memo...3943634&sr=8-1

Most of the destroyed aircraft were Hungarian, mainly Me 210 Ca-1 fast bombers.
So, many details are availabe, if you need specific details.

Re: Herky Green's ground kills

Hello chaps,

I didn't know when this action occurred so that's new to me, and also that he received a DSC for it!

The only details I have for 21/08/44 are that the group claimed 37-13-17 on the ground at Haju-Boszormeny. I don't have either of the books mentioned I am afraid. Any information would be gratefully received. Presumably most of the aircraft claimed were Hungarian?

I am assuming he didn't claim all his victories in one action?

regards

Keith

Re: Herky Green's ground kills

Keith,

He did claim all of his ground kills on that particular mission (violating the orders, which were not to strafe)
His official credits of that day were: 2 Me 109 and 8 Me 410 destroyed, 6 Me 410 probably destroyed and 3 Me 410 damaged. (The "Me 410's" were actually Hungarian Me 210s). Although the US fighters overclaimed during the strafing (which was very common when the same targets were strafed by many different pilots and they were claimed multiple times) the Hajdúböszörmény-stationed two Hungarian Me 210 equipped Fast Bomber Squadrons were knocked out for a month by this attack.

Re: Herky Green's ground kills

Thanks Czaba. I finally found the missing pages from my 325th FG book. 37 destroyed on the ground! What were the actual losses?

thanks

Keith
