ID me 109 model

Hi,

Attached a photo of a model of a 109. Is there anyone who can tell if the registration belongs to a real 109 unit? Also wonder if the emblem is one that was used by any geschwader?

Best regards,

Mathieu.

Re: ID me 109 model

The code 5F+ belonged to AufklGr.(H) 14 and the emblem appears to represent 2.(H)/AufklGr14. This unit appears to have used Bf109G's but I cannot currently find evidence of one wearing 5F+AK.

Re: ID me 109 model

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your lightning fast reply! On the base of the model you can read: As remembery of airfield Bergen N-H ( abbrivation of north-holland). Are you able to check if these unit indeed has been on this airfield?

Best regards,

Mathieu.

Re: ID me 109 model

Mathieu

I am speculating that the paint job and the transfer markings are much later than the model perhaps painted on by an enthusiastic young modeller. I also speculate that the markings come from the old Airfix 1/72 Hs126 scale model whose decals included 5F+AK. My guess is that if the paint and markings were carefully and non-abrasively stripped off a very nice original wartime aluminium metal representation would emerge.

Something that is strange also is that the message in german on the base mentions 1940-1941 yet the model has a DB605 of the F or G model neither of which served in 1940.

Re: ID me 109 model

Hi Peter & Chris,

Thanks for the usefull replies! We already thought of the possebility that the marking were from after the war, your posting confirm that. Also AufklGr.(H) 14 has not been based at Bergen. On the other side of the basement of the model there are some names. I'll ask the owner if he can read them and post them, perhaps that can provide interesting information.

Best regards,

Mathieu.

Re: ID me 109 model

I remember this code - including the badge - being part of Italaerei´s Hs 126 1/72 kit. A not uncommon kit 30 years ago.
I´m quite sure at least the decals are from that kit.

Regards

Roland

Re: ID me 109 model

Here is my 2 cents...

The base is a cross section from a prop blade...

The 109 depiced is an F model, as there is no tail wheel.

I suspect it may have been an original piece...but someone later re-painted the 109 and added the decals.
