He 111P, KG 27 or 54?

Hi
The He 111P found here is claimed by the source to belong to KG 27. However I do not see the 1G code of this unit. The unit code is obscured. It could be B3+EN (5./KG 54). But the photo appears to date from after KG 54 had converted to Ju88. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Ian

Re: He 111P, KG 27 or 54?

Hi Ian

I think this is KG 27, I can't see the fuselage band of KG 54. Also that letter looks like a 'G' to me

Cheers

Chris

Many thanks to both of you. I'm still not totally convinced that the first two characters are 1G+, but agree that the last two are EV.

This would be the Ergänzungsgruppe of both KG 27 and KG 54. Erg.KG 54 and KG 27 still had He111P's into 1942.

Re: He 111P, KG 27 or 54?

Hi all,

It can't be an IV./KG54 a/c because they didn't use the letter V for one of their Staffeln. They used X, Y & Z.

I agree with Ian that this a/c didn't use the code 1G. I believe it looks more like 5J (for KG 4).

Regards,
Rudi.

Many thanks Rudi. KG 4 (5J) certainly looks like an option.
Cheers
