Steve,
The text says "15 Abschüsse", which means 15 victories. I suppose the writer knew the difference between an operational sortie and a victory.

This is not 15 sorties or victory but 15 repaired shot holes from Polish campaign.
This Do 17 from 8./KG 3 received 15 shots over Poland.

@ Markus,

sorry for playing the smartass, but "15 Abschüsse" as mentioned before doesn't mean "bullet holes" or similar words used for damages due to enemy-fire, indifferent in which unit this kite may have served with. Otherwise that guy who wrote the original inscription must have been a little bit stupid...
