one Bf 110 (!) on eBay
Hi Guys,
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Nachtjagd-Flu...item58987b1f79 NJG 2, Taken in Leeuwarden. The machine in background seems to be (R4?)+NN. You know I don't know; so: - What type? - What about the camouflage? - Staffel and period? PS: Holm's site is not very clear concerning the machines in use and aircrafts in strength doesn't match, so far, with what is said in NJG 2 main page ... Thanks for your kind explanations and comments. Regards, Franck. |

And possibly of the same machine, but by the same seller, nonetheless:

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay
Hi Adam,
And thank you! And a Stab machine, with score board and Wnr. Won't be difficult for the specialist of that kind of stuff! Regards, Franck. I'm looking on "Luftwaffe Colours - Nachtjager - Vol.1 - Luftwaffe Night Fighter Units 1939-1943". We have one all black R4+CC introduction page. Page 79 most probably the same machine than eBay picture (correction may be it's not ??+BB (?), but with rack under wings, captionned Bf110 E of III./NJG 2 when ours is most probably Stab II./NJG 2 (??). Am I wrong? |

I quite agree - it looks like the same aircraft. There is a (towing?) chain lying on the ground near the aircraft in (exactly?) the same position - as can be seen in both pictures... And the shadows of the aircraft match too... Judging by the shadow of the sun, the picture must have been taken when the sun was at it's highest position of the day - and in Summer too..! (Shadows are usually longer in The Netherlands...) The shape of the camouflage net seems to correspond with the shape of the hangar. In the photograph you were referring to, there is a camouflage construction which looks like it's attached to the corner of the hangar - which could be the same camouflage net..(?) The hangar is a rather large hangar, by the way... If the photographs of the aircraft are from a series, then we are probably looking at "Werft I"... (As the text at the back of the eBay-photograph indicates. Whether this text is original and correct... Who shall say..?) Just my two cents, for what it's worth... Whether it's at Leeuwarden, I'm not (yet) completely sure. When looking at aerial photographs - there could be a position at leeuwarden that matches, but I still have to check some more photographs... With kind regards, Piet Bouma The Netherlands |

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay
Hi guys!
The attachment to this post: I show you a photograph that is supposedly taken at Leeuwarden too - and in it we see the same rounded shape of a camouflage net just outside a large hangar. (This on also starts at the corner of the hangar)... Photograph is copyright of the Bundesarchiv. (The Bundesarchiv photo caption says it was taken in France, but Dutch researchers can confirm it was taken at Fliegerhorst Leeuwarden...) With kind regards, Piet Bouma The Netherlands |

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay
Marcel Hogenhuis have on LEMB identified the Do 215 in the background as potentially carying the markings R4+MN of 5./NJG2.

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay
Hi Mikael,
and thank you! - I'm an outlaw on LEMB as everybody knows. But, it's not that important ... - My main concern is Bf 109; that's the reason of (!) in this thread title. - BUT, some times to times I get flashes on pictures, like that one. - I can admit it's a Do 215 (B-2?) in background, why not?, and with pleasure. - But this doesn't answer to my 1st question: Who flew this bird?.. since, thanks to Adam, whe have the unit, place, time (Yes, I think we have 1942) score board and WNr. ( I'm sure to be discussed). Last, what about the camo? Is there any more recent available publication that the one I pointed? ( I must admit I have modeller reactions when watching this! ![]() Cheers, Franck. |

Re: one Bf 110 (!) on eBay
Hi Jaap,
You are probably right, I don't know; I just can accept the writings on picture's back ... Your comments does point the limits of Holm's present site I already talked about, without forgetting the most recent available up-to-date (if any) ... That's the reason - one of - this forum and others do exist. As usual, one took a picture and put the caption years later. So, If you're right, and supposing the camo did change in 1942, could it be Gilze Rijen? What do you think? Franck. |
