Godfray - 12 Sqn - 1940 KIA - Enigma resolved
At page 472 of T&N Battle of France there is the question of whether Roy Godfray - 12 Sqn -was a WO/AG when he was killed by enemy action at Souge on 15 June 1940.
Godfray was an armourer. I had a number of conversations with Jock Purslow a WO/AG with 12 Sqn who flew out of Souge when the attack came in. Indeed he saw the bombs exploding as his Battle climbed away. When he landed he was asked by the brother-in-law of Godfray if he knew of Roy Godfray and had any news. The only news he could give was that Godfray had been the armourer on his plane and was alive when he took off. He was very clear on the detail as the conversation in England and the final outcome was very striking to him. Sometimes the sands of time can be brushed away...... regards Iain |
