Leck He 162s
How many He 162s were surrendered/captured at Leck. I have seen the number 27 and 31. Which is correct. TIA.

Re: Leck He 162s
From J.C.Mermet, "Les Jets de la Luftwaffe", Aéro Journal HS N°4, Dec 2002:
"From BAFO (British Air Forces of Occupation) documents: 31 air worthy He 162 were captured by the Allied over the Reich, among them 27 were captured at Leck airfield, two (W.Nr. 220092 & 220100) at Tulln (30km North-West of Vienna) and two are not yet correctly identified." So probably a little more than 27 He 162 may have be found at Leck since some were probably not air worthy... |

Re: Leck He 162s
Thanks for your reply. That explains the different counts. Interesting about the two aircraft in Tulin. Those are the highest 22xxxx series w/n that I have seen. Walt

Re: Leck He 162s
Hi O.Menu
what's your source about 220092 and 220100 in Tulln? My sources say that 220030 was the last W.nr of the Languste production. (not finished) I have seen a pic of a wreck found in Langenlebarn and not Tulln. It crashlanded there on march 31st 1945. W.nr is not clear to read, but I think it's 220022 and not 220092. Re: Leck He 162s
Hi All
I would be very cautious regarding the WNr of the He 162 found at Tulln. Why they should be mentioned in a British document is also puzzling since Austria was NOT British territory at all, which Leck on the other hand was! The Wnr group 22 xx xx was built by Werk Languste, EHAG and 20+ had been finished by the end of April. Last listed WNr is 220030 (See Griehl Flugzeug 6/95) Of course new details has certainly been found since, but the true source of these high WNr is at least wanted by me Cheers Stig |

Re: Leck He 162s
Dear all,
I recomend that you have a look atthe website http://memorial.flight.free.fr for the restoration of one of the French 162s from Leck 120015 said to be White 21 rather than yellow1. Excellent pictures of the aircraft under restoration. James Bone |

Re: Leck He 162s
No, i m not directly involved in this restoration but i m in touch with P.Couderchon who had already do the cockpit restoration and who is in close contact with memorial-flight. It seems that what is believed is that 120015 must have a two digits numerical code in the twenty range number and white more than the first thought yellow color and so unfortunately we miss a photo from this one under it's original markings...
